site.btaTemporary Public Transport Green Ticket Due to Air Pollution Measure Remains on Friday

The temporary public transport green ticket, worth BGN 1, will be available on Friday, January 10, for preventative purposes due to air pollution.
This week, Sofia introduced a green daily ticket worth BGN 1 for travel in public transport, as well as free parking near metro stations for Thursday and Friday, January 9 and 10, said the press centre of Sofia Municipality on Wednesday.

The Municipality explained that the measures are in connection with the measured excess of the value of fine particulate matter  (PM) in the air over Sofia, as well as with the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology  forecast for expected moderate potential for air pollution in the last two days of the work week.  For the first time, the decision to introduce a green ticket is taken early the day before in order to give transport companies enough time to prepare, the Municipality stressed. 

On Thursday, Sofia Municipality indicated that data from all stations of the Ministry of Environment and Water, which are the official source of information on air quality, showed that PM levels were entirely within the norm over the whole of Sofia.

The Center for Urban Mobility reported that by 12 pm the first day of the introduction of the green ticket, over 40,000 passengers had purchased one and traveled in public transport.

Sofia Municipality publishes information on air quality through the About the Air Information System, as well as on the forecast of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology on the expected potential of the atmosphere for pollution with PM10 on the territory of Sofia.
