By December 15, 2023, passenger traffic via Cyprus' airports surpassed the flow of passengers throughout the whole pre-pandemic year 2019, the CNA news agency reported, quoting Cypriot Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Alexis Vafeades.

Air passenger traffic in the island country is expected to grow by 3% in 2023 compared with the peak year 2019, Vafeades said. This will have a positive impact on the national economy and tourism. The increase is due to the joint efforts of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, Hermes Airports Ltd and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism to boost airport connectivity. Higher flight frequency and a growing load of the country's airport network resulting from the addition of new air carriers and routes have played a decisive role for this result.

This year 56 carriers offer 157 routes connecting to 39 countries, according to Vafeades.

He thanked all stakeholders and vowed to keep working for the further improvement of Cyprus' connectivity and passenger service standards at the airports of Larnaca and Paphos.
