Sofia, January 31 (BTA) - The Sofia Municipal Council on Thursday voted 40-18 to adopt the 2019 budget of the capital Sofia after three-hour debates.

The total budget stands at 1.7 billion leva. Of these, capital outlays account for 632 million leva. Investments through own funds are 326.6 million leva. Some 447.9 million leva will be invested in transport and transport infrastructure. A little over 50 million leva have been allocated for construction and repair of major streets and boulevards. Some 167 million leva will be spent on cleaning and park management. Forty million leva will be spent on education. Of these 20 million leva are earmarked for overhaul and new construction of kindergartens.

Mayor Yordanka Fandakova said that the suggested budget is one that Sofia can afford. The key projects which will be supported are the underground development and the upgrade of the public transport. Fandakova said: "We expect 90 per cent of the buses to be replaced and the average age will be six years."
