February 7 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov ordered
the Health Ministry to review the financial position of each and
every municipal hospital in Bulgaria, the government press
service reported on Thursday.
Meeting with representatives of the Municipal Hospitals
Association, Borissov said: "I will not shut down any hospitals
while I am in charge of the government. Healthcare spending
increases every year. Therefore, I want a solution. I cannot
accept that nurses and doctors who have years of experience and
heal and help us every day, should feel deprived of support,
abandoned and forgotten."
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav
Donchev, Health Minister Kiril Ananiev and National Health
Insurance Fund Director Decho Dechev. The sides discussed the
financial problems confronting municipal hospitals and the
insufficient remuneration of medical workers.
The Prime Minister said the government will look for ways to
provide financial support to hard-up municipal hospitals. He
gave the Health Ministry until Friday to propose solutions.
The Municipal Hospitals Association, too, promised to make a
review of the condition of the hospitals. RY/VE
