Bulgaria and Romania's entry in the Schengen area is an exceptional trading opportunity for Turkiye, Romanian Ambassador to Bulgaria Brandusa Predescu said at a business forum in Burgas on Friday. The event, held for the third time, aims to strengthen the three countries' economic ties.

Predescu called Romania's partnerships with Bulgaria and Turkiye "strategic" and noted that the economy and trade are the backbone of these partnerships. She pointed out that security and defence could become an important part of relations between the three countries.

"We live in an environment that must and needs to be secure. This is especially true of business. I think there are opportunities for cooperation in this direction," Predescu stressed. Trade between Romania and Turkiye grew by 10% in 2024, exceeding USD 11.5 billion.

She also noted that two-way trade between Bulgaria and Romania had grown by 5% to nearly EUR 9 billion in the first months of 2024 alone. "We want to see more Bulgarian companies in Romania and more Romanian companies in Bulgaria," the diplomat said.

The business forum was organized by the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency, together with the Bulgarian-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce.
