An exhibition titled "Through My Eyes and Yours" will open on Tuesday to showcase the talent of Sevdalin Tlachenski, an autistic person who has developed the skills of a professional photographer, the organizers said on Monday. The event aims to highlight the talents and integration opportunities for individuals with autism spectrum disorder.
The initiative is organized by the Persons with Development Problems Assistance Foundation, with support from the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy.
The exhibition is a joint project with Tlachenski’s mentor, photographer Alexandar Nikolov, and will be opened by Labour Minister Borislav Gutsanov, the Ministry’s press office said on Monday.
The opening of the exhibition coincides with World Autism Awareness Day, which has been observed on April 2 since 2007 following a UN resolution. Statistics show that the issue of autism has become an increasingly important social matter in recent decades. According to the international organization Autism Speaks, which assists individuals with autism and their families, the number of autism cases worldwide has increased sevenfold in the last 10 years. According to Labour Ministry, Bulgaria follows this global trend.
