Turkish Ambassador Mehmet Uyanik said Turkiye will continue to work actively with the institutions in Bulgaria to strengthen the bilateral economic ties. He addressed the 3rd Burgas Business Forum "Strengthening Bulgaria - Romania - Turkiye Economic Ties", held at the International Congress Centre on Friday.

"We held a very fruitful meeting with the Labour and Social Policy Ministry in Bulgaria, where we discussed ways to facilitate the processes of hiring workers," he said. Bulgarian-Turkish trade grew by 15.6% in 2024 and Turkish enterprises in Bulgaria provide more than 15,000 jobs, he said.

"We are proud of our investors in Bulgaria and Romania. This strengthens both the local economy and the economy of Turkiye," the diplomat said, adding that the turnover among the three countries totalled some EUR 25 billion in 2024. He stressed that Turkiye wants to significantly increase its exports to both Bulgaria and the other EU countries.

Turkiye is already working on projects to facilitate traffic at its border crossings with Bulgaria, and the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint is the main gateway for Turkish business to Europe, said the Ambassador. He recalled that this is the second busiest border crossing in the world, with more than four million trucks and passengers passing through it in 2024. The diplomat emphasized that one of the ways to step up trade with Bulgaria is by using the border crossing at Malko Tarnovo.
