Vice President Iliana Iotova took part in the traditional commemorations marking the 152nd death anniversary of Bulgarian national hero Vasil Levski (1837-1873) in Lovech, Northcentral Bulgaria, on Tuesday, the President's Press Secretariat said.
"To understand Levski, you must understand what freedom is. Freedom is power when it lives within us. It becomes even greater power when we give freedom to those around us, when we recognize and defend their right to it," Iotova said, addressing the crowd in front of the monument to Vasil Levski in Lovech.
The Vice President praised the leadership of the municipality for continuing the tradition of honouring this date.
In her speech, she said that the Bulgarian nation is destined to create. "We are a nation of strong people, of talents, a nation that has survived despite the challenges of history,” she added.
Earlier in the day, Iotova visited the local school named after Vasil Levski, which marked 100 years since it adopted his name. She also conferred with Lovech Mayor Stratimir Petrov.
