Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov has asked Parliament to strip of immunity two MPs, the prosecution service said in a press release Tuesday. The two are identified as Dimitar Avramov (MRF - New Beginning) and Daniel Alexandrov (GERB), at the suggestion of the supervising prosecutors in order to give permission to instigate a criminal prosecution, the press centre of the prosecutor's office said on Tuesday.

Regarding Avramov, there is a criminal case for influence peddling, which was suspended by a January 27 ruling of the Sofia Court of Appeals due to his election as an MP to the 51st National Assembly.

In May 2023 a pre-trial proceeding was initiated against Daniel Alexandrov for an act with the purpose of arousing sexual desire without sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 18. By a decree of November 2024, the criminal proceedings were suspended as Alexandrov had taken the oath of office as an MP of the 51st National Assembly.

Request for the lifting of Alexandrov's immunity and criminal proceedings were also submitted to the 49th National Assembly, and for Avramov - in several parliaments, the Prosecution Service said.
