site.btaCC-DB Seeks Formation of Commission on Prevention of Spread, Use of Drugs

Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) will submit to the National Assembly a proposal to form a temporary commission on the prevention of spread and use of drugs and psychoactive substances, CC-DB MP Vasil Pandov said during a thematic conference in Parliament organized by Continue the Change, the coalition's press office said on Monday.

The forum was held under the patronage of National Assembly Speaker Nataliya Kiselova.

Pandov stressed the need for all state institutions to become more involved in prevention, awareness and therapy in the field of narcotic drugs and psychoactive substances. "The lack of visible results in this direction in schools and universities is obvious. The discussion has led to the conclusion that, despite the legislation in place, there is no effective coordination of policies on the distribution and use of drugs and psychoactive substances," Pandov warned. CC-DB will therefore demand that the Prime Minister commit to the coordination of all institutions involved in the case.

Pandov described as "scandalous" the fact that there is no centre for free therapy for addicts in Sofia, while the state hospital for drug addiction treatment has only 10 beds for addiction therapy.
