Bulgaria’s national day, March 3, has received special recognition by the City Council of Beverly Hills, Bulgaria’s Consulate General in Los Angeles said on Facebook.
This happened on February 19, the day on which Bulgarians around the world commemorate 152 years since the death of freedom fighter Vasil Levski.
Beverly Hills Mayor Lester Friedman, Vice Mayor Dr. Sharona Nazarian and city councilors presented the Consul General of Bulgaria in Los Angeles, Boyko Hristov, with a proclamation declaring March 3 as Bulgarian-American Friendship Day in Beverly Hills.
The document highlights the 82nd anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews from Nazi death camps during World War II, emphasizes the friendship between the peoples of Bulgaria and the United States, and recognizes the resilience, strength, and perseverance of the Bulgarian people in overcoming historical challenges. In addition, it notes the enduring influence of the Bulgarian community on local society.
The Mayor of Beverly Hills and the city councilors call on the residents of the city to use the opportunity of the Bulgaria-US Friendship Day to learn more about the history, culture and contributions of Bulgarians in America.
