In 2024, the number of nights spent at tourist accommodation establishments in Bulgaria was up by 3% compared to the previous year, according to Eurostat data made public on Friday.

The estimated number of nights spent in tourist accommodation in the European Union (EU) reached 2.99 billion, exceeding 2023 by 53.4 million, or 2%.

The growth in tourism nights was mainly driven by an increase in nights spent by international guests (58.7 million), while the nights spent by domestic guests recorded a modest decrease (5.3 million).

In 2024, the EU tourism nights were fairly balanced between international (48%) and domestic guests (52%).

In terms of accommodation, hotels and similar accommodation recorded 1.9 billion nights (63% of the total), followed by holiday dwellings and other short-stay accommodation with 711 million (24%) and campsites with 396 million (13%).

Compared with 2023, in 2024 the number of nights spent in tourist accommodation rose in nearly all EU countries. The largest increase was recorded in Luxembourg (+22%), Malta (+13%) and Latvia (+7%).

Slight decreases were recorded in France and Belgium (1% each), while the figures remained stable in Sweden, Finland, and Italy.
