Law graduates of Burgas Free University (BFU) are the best at professional realization in the national judicial system, according to a report by the Institute for Market Economics elaborated with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. The data in the report show that 13% of the management staff in the judicial system have graduated from BFU, with only law graduates from the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia having a bigger share, 34%. However, considering that the yearly number of law graduates from Sofia University is much higher and that the university was also the only choice for law students until the early 1990s, the result of BFU is equivalent to top place, the report reads.

The Institute for Market Economics' report aims to determine the graduates of which universities dominate the Judiciary, whether there is concentration of a limited number of universities that dominate the Judiciary's administration, and whether there is transparency when appointing magistrates at leadership positions.

According to the report, only law graduates of five higher education institutions are represented among members of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), with BFU having the largest share at 10% of SJC members. The data also reveal that BFU is invariably among the top three higher schools in the country in categories regarding law personnel training. It is in first place in the Satisfaction with the Learning Environment category of the national university ranking system, and in second place in the categories Teaching Intensity, Importance of the Learning Process for Teachers, and Exclusivity of the Teaching Staff.

By decision of the Grand National Assembly of September 18, 1991, Burgas Free University is among the first three higher education institutions established after the fall of communism in Bulgaria, as well as the first university in Eastern Bulgaria.
