Climate investment in green innovation, the role of banks and the place of women in financing the transition to net zero are the focus of discussions planned at the Bulgarian pavilion of COP29 here on Thursday.

Caretaker Innovation and Growth Minister Rosen Karadimov will open the debate on climate finance from different segments of the financial sector. Representatives from development banks, private financial institutions and NGOs will participate in the discussion.

Memorandums of Understanding are expected to be signed between InvestBulgaria Agency and the Azerbaijan Export and İnvestment Promotion Agency, and between the Bulgarian Executive Agency for the Promotion of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and its Slovenian counterpart.

The Ministry of Environment and Water, the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, and Green Transition Forum are co-organising a panel on women and climate finance. Marina Stefanova, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics, is moderating the discussion, which will include Reneta Koleva, Deputy Minister of Environment and Water, Barbara Kaufmann, Director at the European Commission's Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, Ivelina Vassileva, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bulgaria and representative in the European mission Restoring Our Oceans and Waters, Monika Stanisheva, founder of Green Transition Forum, and others.

Thursday at COP29 is dedicated to various projects and initiatives to finance the so-called green transition and to events highlighting the challenges of climate change in different regions of the world, according to the forum's programme.
