In 2023, agricultural output in Bulgaria was valued at EUR 5.39 billion in basic prices, going down by 18.2% compared with 2022, the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) reported on its website on Wednesday.

EU-wide, agricultural output in 2023 amounted to EUR 537.07 billion, decreasing by 1.5% from the peak year 2022. France tops the table with EUR 95.77 billion reported last year, and Malta is at the bottom with EUR 140 million.

In terms of volume, agricultural output in Bulgaria in 2023 fell by about 4% compared with 2022.

The sharpest decreases in terms of volume were reported in Greece (-16%), Estonia, Latvia, Spain (each -9%) and Sweden (-8%). There were 10 EU countries for which agricultural volumes were higher in 2023 than in 2022. The sharpest rates of increase were in Hungary (+26%) and Slovakia (+12%).
