In the framework of his visit to New York to participate in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Bulgaria's caretaker Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov also took part in a high-level meeting on the situation in the Gaza Strip and the implementation of the two-state solution as a path to a just and comprehensive peace in the region. The meeting was hosted by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Arab League Contact Group on Gaza (the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Indonesia, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Nigeria, the State of Palestine, the State of Qatar, the Republic of Turkiye, as well as the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation), the EU and the Kingdom of Norway, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Friday.

The forum discussed specific measures to implement the two-state solution as a path to a just and comprehensive peace in the context of the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant UN resolutions, the possibilities for ending all hostilities, respect for international law and the grave humanitarian situation in Gaza and the region.

Addressing the meeting, Kondov identified the initiative as extremely timely considering regional developments not only in Gaza but throughout the Middle East. He stressed that the international community must make every effort to ensure lasting peace and stability in the Middle East, a goal that cannot be achieved through war and violence.

Bulgaria has been consistent in providing financial support to overcome the grave humanitarian situation in Palestine. In April 2024, the Bulgarian government once again allocated funds - this time in the amount of EUR 200,000 for humanitarian aid to the civilian population in Gaza. The funds were provided through the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization and the Egyptian Red Crescent.
