The 11th edition of the International Radar Festival will be held from August 2 to 4 in the Varna City Art Gallery, the organizers said on Friday.

The festival programme will include over 30 musicians and visual artists, who will present projects that explore the intersections between many different genres. Among the highlights of the programme will be the guest appearance of Finnish pianist Aki Rissanen, who will present a solo concert on the Omniwerk, a unique new instrument in which Finnish instrument builders Jukka Ollikka and Jonte Knif have combined the Geigenwerk and the Lautenwerk.

Doriene Marselje from the Netherlands will offer a light installation combined with harp sounds, while world opera prima Claron McFadden will perform a renaissance concert in the company of three young opera singers. The audience will also hear German band Salomea with a contemporary jazz and electronic sound, and a Dutch-Bulgarian collaboration between pianist Tony Roe, saxophonist Ben van Gelder and beatbox artist SkilleR.

At the festival, pianist Dimitar Bodurov's newest project Decagon will be premiered, conceived as an audiovisual concert with a chamber ensemble of ten musicians with video mapping. The musical programme of the festival will end with the German trumpeter Markus Stockhausen and with ambient music by Viktor Prodanov and Tsvetan Momchilov, who will present their latest project called Particules.

The International Radar Festival is implemented with the financial support of the Varna Municipality Culture Fund, the Culture Ministry, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bulgaria and the Goethe Institute.
