site.btaDistribution of Bulgarian Seats in European Parliament Announced
The Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced the votes polled and the distribution of seats for Bulgarian parties and coalitions which ran in the June 9 European Parliament elections. Bulgaria will have 17 MEPs, CEC said.
GERB-UDF won five seats. The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria and Vazrazhdane won three seats each. The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP for Bulgaria) won two seats. There Is Such a People will have one MEP.
Three candidates - one of the two MRF Chairmen, Dzhevdet Chakarov, MRF's Iskra Mihaylova and GERB-UDF's Rosen Zhelyazkov - have given up their seats. Chakarov topped the MRF list and Mihaylova was third. Zhelyazkov topped the GERB-UDF list.
According to CEC, the number of voters on the electoral registers at the time of their submission to the Commission was 6,170,472. The number of voters recorded as having voted, according to the signatures on the electoral registers, is 2,073,730. The total number of valid votes is 2,013,060.
