Bulgarian Vice President Iliana Iotova hopes that Dimitar Glavchev will succeed in forming a cabinet. Asked by journalists whether Glavchev, who is a caretaker prime minister-designate, is consulting President Rumen Radev about the cabinet line-up, Iotova said that she is not aware of any such consultations. The Vice President recalled that the head of State clearly stated when handing Glavchev the appointment decree that, under the revised Constitution, Radev is not at all responsible for the formation of this cabinet and cannot possible assume this responsibility.
"That's what the MPs wanted: to bar the president from expressing any opinion on the caretaker cabinet, even though this is an obvious breach of the separation of powers. They achieved it. We stick by the letter of the law," Iotova said further.
In her opinion, Bulgaria's contemporary history has never seen such an encroachment on the Constitution throughout this very difficult transition. "Bulgaria is confronting a political and a constitutional crisis, and the drafters of the new provisions in the basic law should be clear about that," the Vice President added.
