site.btaRetrospective Exhibition of Georgi Zhelezarov Works Marks 127 Years since His Birth
A retrospective painting exhibition of Georgi Zhelezarov's works will be presented at the capital's Platinum Business Centre on the occasion of 127 years since the birth of the artist (1897-1982).
The exhibition, entitled "I Painted while There Was Light", can be viewed until February 16, the organizers said. The collection includes 40 paintings.
Georgi Zhelezarov was born on January 25, 1897 in the Pirin village of Marchevo. In 1914, he enrolled as a part-time student at the Art-Industrial School in Sofia, studying Graphics and Decorative Art under the Czech artist Josef Piter, but in 1916 he interrupted his studies to avoid his military service. After the end of the First World War, he continued his studies at the Art-Industrial School. From 1921 to 1924 he was a freelance painter and graphic artist in Sofia. Zhelezarov visited Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Constantinople, Egypt, Italy. He held seven solo exhibitions during his lifetime.
