The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) approved the natural gas price for August at BGN 60.75/MWh, excluding access, transmission, excise and VAT. This is the price at which public supplier Bulgargaz will sell natural gas to final suppliers and to licence holders for the production and transmission of heat. The regulator approved the price after an analysis of the actual data submitted by Bulgargaz, forming the natural gas price for August, the EWRC said on Thursday.

In its initial application dated from July 11, the public supplier forecast a price of BGN 61.44/MWh, or a 5.7% increase compared to the July price. Based on the updated data submitted by Bulgargaz, the price has been updated to BGN 60.75/MWh, which reduced the increase to 4.5%. The reason for this is that for August 2024 the customers on the regulated and free market have reduced their requested quantities of natural gas. As a result, the public supplier has included in the pricing mix quantities from the Chiren extraction which are lower than originally foreseen.
