A large amount of cannabis was discovered and seized on Wednesday during an operation by forensic experts from the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry in Kyustendil and the Regional Administration in Dupnitsa, said the police's press centre.

During the operation, a 52-year-old man from Petrich was detained in the plantation area and 2,235 plants were uprooted. The plants had a height of about 180 centimetres and were planted in a forest in the village of Slatino in Boboshevo Municipality. They were grown through an established irrigation system, with video surveillance also having been installed at the site. 

A field camp with a five-bed dormitory, kitchen and bathroom was also built in the area of ​​the cannabis plantation. Seven polythene bags with dry cannabis leaf mass were discovered and seized there. Their total weight is a little over 20 kilogrammes. 

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case, while the investigation continues under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office in Kyustendil.
