An exhibition titled "The Modernists of the 20th Century", featuring 74 works by Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall and Joan Miro, opened in the Sea Casino Culture Centre in Burgas on Wednesday. Prints by Fernand Leger and Henri Matisse are also on display.

"This is an extremely rare collection of works by the great modernists of the 20th century," said Vivacom Art Hall Oborishte 5 Art Director Denitsa Guergova. The works are accompanied by a description from the art series, as well as by information about the artists.

The exhibition presents works from the private collection of Vivacom Art Hall Oborishte 5. There are works from permanent collections of museums and art galleries around the world and from Atelier Mourlot in New York City, one of the major publishers of graphic art.

Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov said at the opening that Burgas may be a medium-sized city by European standards, but its residents are great art connoisseurs. According to him, for many years Burgas has been known as a city of culture. "The artists of Burgas are some of the most famous in Bulgaria, and most of them are well known abroad," he said. Nikolov also recalled that for six years now Burgas has hosted a branch of the National Academy of Art.

The exhibition can be viewed at the Sea Casino Cultural Centre until August 31.
