Five pilots from the Hawks of Romania civil aerobatic display team will show their skills in the skies over Varna on the eve of the city's holiday on August 15. The pilots, led by George Rotaru, met with Varna Mayor Ivan Portnih on Monday.

The Hawks of Romania club celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2023, Rotaru told journalists. In 2022, the team won the European Aerobatic Championships, and in October will participate in the World Championships, which will be held in the USA. The club prepares pilots between 16 and 23 for free, Rotaru added. The best of them become members of the Romanian national team, he explained.

Five aircraft will take off over Varna. The show will last about half an hour. Spectators will see solo performances of the Romanian pilots as well as joint choreography. Rotaru specified that Hawks of Romania will fly at an altitude of between 100 and 1,200 meters and will move at speeds between 100 and 400 kilometers per hour.

The only lady member of the team, Andrea Banesaru, will be among the participating pilots. She is 23 years old and has been flying since she was 16. She has accumulated about 1,300 flying hours and is now an instructor who teaches many teenagers.

Rotaru added that Hawks of Romania perform aerobatic shows almost every week. Apart from Romania, the team also performs abroad. After Varna, they will travel to fly in Hungary and Turkey.
