The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) reported an outbreak of African swine fever in the village of Karlukovo in Lovech Region, BFSA said in a press release on Thursday.
Veterinary inspectors found a discarded carcass of a pig without an identification tag. The samples tested positive for African swine fever. A 3-kilometre protection zone has been designated around the outbreak in the village of Karlukovo.
Furthermore, a 10-kilometre surveillance zone has been designated around the outbreak. It includes the villages of Lukovit, Petrevene, Todorichene, Rumyantsevo, Belentsi and Daben in the municipality of Lukovit, the villages of Batultsi, Dabravata, Oreshene, Dobrevtsi and Zlatna Panega in the municipality of Yablanitsa, Lovech Region, as well as the villages of Kunino and Stoyanovtsi in the municipality of Roman in Vratsa Region.
Measures have been taken to eradicate the disease in accordance with the rules of European and national legislation. Cleaning and repeated disinfection has been carried out in the area where the pig carcass was found. An epizootic survey is to be carried out and the movement of domestic pigs in Karlukovo is to be traced back for up to 35 days before the disease was detected.
