Bulgarian National Police Chief Atanas Ilkov and Kaloyan Kaloyanov, director of the Burgas Regional Directorate of the Interior, met with Martin Vondracek, President of the Presidium of the Czech Police, who was on a two-day working visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of Bulgarian Interior Ministry Secretary Petar Todorov, the Interior Ministry said on its website on Thursday.

The participants highlighted that there has been a sharp increase in disciplinarity among Czech tourists in Bulgaria. The meeting also discussed opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation to effectively counter illegal migration, economic crime and fraud.

The aim of Vondracek’s visit was to ascertain once again the positive results of the bilateral police activity in the Bulgarian seaside resorts where Czech tourists are staying. There are four Czech police officers seconded to the Bulgarian towns of Primorsko and Nessebar (on the Black Sea) for the summer season.

In 2014, a Protocol was signed between the Interior Ministries of Bulgaria and Czechia for stationing joint patrols to protect public order and security in Bulgarian resorts during the active tourist season.

The Czech police officers patrol in their national uniforms and work primarily with Czech citizens, but together with their Bulgarian colleagues, and in accordance with Bulgarian legislation.

Some 21,000 Czech tourists are expected to visit the Black Sea coast in the summer of 2023.
