Over 83 kg of marijuana was seized by customs officers during an inspection in the area of the Kapitan Petko Voyvoda checkpoint, the Customs Agency said on Monday.
The marijuana was found in a truck with Bulgarian registration entering the country from Greece through the Kapitan Petko Voyvoda border crossing on 18.07.2024. The driver of the truck, a Bulgarian citizen, presented documents for transporting a grouped consignment of goods, part of which was bathroom sanitary ware products from Portugal destined for Bulgaria. Customs officers and border guards found on the pallets of sanitary ware seven cardboard boxes containing 124 transparent vacuum-packets with green plant-like material. A field drug test was carried out, which indicated marijuana with a total gross weight of 83,250 kg, valued at BGN 1,332,000, at court prices.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor's Office.
