Nikola Tsolov claimed his maiden feature race victory in Formula 3, which was also his third Formula 3 win of the season, as he triumphed in the long race at the Hungaroring racetrack in Hungary on Sunday.

The 17-year-old Bulgarian started from second but was able to pass ART teammate Laurens van Hoepen en route to victory.

The success put Tsolov in eighth place in the overall Formula 3 standings, with two more rounds to go. With a score of 75 points so far, he is 44 points behind top-ranked Gabriele Mini of Italy, who came in 12th on Sunday. Luke Browning of the UK retained his second place in the standings, four points behind Mini. Another UK driver, Arvid Lindblad, is third, six points behind Mini.

Tsolov's two previous wins of the season were in Monaco and Austria. Lindblad is the only driver with more wins than Tsolov this season. Lindblad boasts four victories, including two feature race wins.

Two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso congratulated Nikola Tsolov on his achievement. In his Instagram profile, the Spaniard, who has been Tsolov's mentor for many years, posted a photo of the Bulgarian, captioned "Victory Tsolov".
