Sofia, September 14 (BTA) - The Ministry of Environment and
Water Sunday issued alerts for dangerous rain levels in four
administrative regions of Northwestern Bulgaria: Vidin, Montana,
Vratsa and Sofia Region, for the night of September 14 to 15
and for the day of September 15. The quantity of precipitation
there is expected to reach 30-50 litres per square metre. Local
flash floods are possible and may cause damage to property and
inundation, the Ministry warns.
On Monday, another seven regions are likely to experience
potentially dangerous rain levels: Pleven, Lovech (North Central
Bulgaria), Plovdiv, Pazardjik (South Central Bulgaria), Sofia
City, Kyustendil and Pernik (Southwestern Bulgaria). The
expected quantities are 20-35 litres per square metre.
Rains will continue during the next 24 hours as well. On
Tuesday, the total quantities are expected at 15-25 l/sq m, but
places in Central and Western Bulgaria may have as much as 50
l/sq m.
Rivers in Western Bulgaria are expected to swell Sunday
afternoon. On the night to Monday and during the day on Monday,
the rise will be more substantial in the Northwest. Between
September 15 and 17, a considerable increase is expected in the
levels of the rivers Ogosta, Timok, Iskur, Vit and Ossum, in the
upper reaches of the Maritsa River and the respective
tributaries, in the basins of the rivers Mesta and Strouma.
