GERB-UDF has nominated Orlin Kolev for Constitutional Court judge on the National Assembly's quota, shows information on the National Assembly's website. The other nomination is Yonko Grozev, put forward by Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria.
Earlier on Wednesday, GERB leader Boyko Borissov told reporters that he has his own nominee for the post, whose name would be announced by the GERB-UDF parliamentary group.
The group presents Kolev as someone with 18 years of experience as a university lecturer in various courses, such as Constitutional Law of the Republic of Bulgaria, Constitutional Control/Justice, Constitutional Foundations of State Power, and Fundamental Human Rights and their Protection. This experience is an indisputable testimonial to his high qualities, GERB-UDF says. Kolev is one of the most highly rated lecturers by the students taking his lecture courses. In addition, the nominee's thesis for a PhD degree in constitutional law can also be added to his high professionalism, the reasoning reads.
In the field of practice, Kolev's professionalism is mainly expressed through his work as a member of the Commission for Protection against Discrimination. In a number of cases, changes have been made to existing legislation on the basis of proceedings initiated by Kolev, the reasoning reads further.
