Turbot Catch Limit  in Black Sea Remains 43.2 Tonnes

Sofia/Brussels, December 15 (BTA) - At its meeting on Monday,
the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council decided that the turbot
catch limit in the Black Sea will remain 43.2 tonnes in 2015,
the Bulgarian Agriculture and Food Ministry said.

Bulgaria was represented at the meeting by Agriculture and Food
Minister Dessislava Taneva, who defended the country's position
that the turbot harvesting quota should not be reduced. The
European Commission proposed a reduction by 15 cent.

In Taneva's words, the present model of fishing catch limits'
reduction for Member States only is ineffective and it causes
losses when it is applicable only to these countries. "The
challenge is to create conditions for equality between all Black
Sea countries and elaborate a management model which could be
applied to and observed in the same way by all states of the
Black Sea Basin," she noted.

Taneva said firmly that Bulgaria will continue to work towards
the prevention of unregulated fishing and the introduction of an
ecosystem approach. Bulgaria is committed to continue
controlling and monitoring fishing activities.
