Interior Ministry Reform Concept Is Ready -Interior Minister Buchvarova

Sofia, January 7 (BTA) - The concept of reform in the Ministry of Interior is ready, Minister Roumyana Buchvarova told journalists Thursday. Legal consultations are currently under way which have to finally determine the procedure of reappointment of ministry officials.

Speaking of the donations to the Interior Ministry, Buchvarova said the matter had been cleared with the Interior Ministry Act passed last year. Donations from private companies and persons are excluded from the rules for such activity by an order of the minister. Last year, the ministry has received 2,400,000 leva in international donations. Part of these were set aside to develop the building of the Joint Drug Task Force, which Buchvarova unveiled Thursday.

The Interior Ministry, whose annual budget exceeds one billion leva, has begun, again, to rely on donations of fuel, car parts and vehicles, some of them received from poor municipalities, media reported. Last August, Interior Minister Buchvarova  reversed a ban on such donations.

Commenting on a series of sexual assaults reportedly committed in the German city of Cologne by young men, many of North African or Arab appearance, Buchvarova said the Bulgarian services are monitoring the events and all measures to prevent such incidents and to react as soon as possible in case this happens have been taken.

The Joint Drug Task Force building was unveiled on the territory of the Chief Directorate for Countering Organised Crime (CD COC) in Sofia. In addition to Buchvarova, it was also attended by CD COC Director Ivaylo Spiridonov, US Charge d'Affaires in Bulgaria Martina Strong and the US Drug Enforcement Administration's Regional Director for the Middle East and the Balkans, Kyle Williamson.
