NEK's Payments to AtomStroyExport  over Belene N-plant Project Won't Increase Electricity Price

Sofia, June 23 (BTA) - The price of electricity will not increase because of the payments NEK has to make to the Russian company AtomStroyExport for the equipment produced for the Belene N-plant project before it was scrapped, Energy and Water Regulatory Commission Chair Ivan Ivanov told journalists here on Thursday.

The International Court of Arbitration (ICA) in Paris adjudged last week that Bulgaria's NEK should pay AtomStroyExport 550 million euro for the Belene N-plant equipment.

According to Ivanov, Bulgarian citizens can rest assured that the price of electricity won't go up by even a penny over NEK's payments to the Russian company. He said that NEK will have to gradually pay its debts for the abandoned N-plant project and for the Tsankov Kamak hypro-power project.

These debts NEK must pay from its own profits and not through the price of electricity, the EWRC Chair underscored, adding that they will not be included in the electricity price formation.
