Continue the Change (CC) co-leader Kiril Petkov said Wednesday the party will be a real opposition in a video posted and shared on the party’s social media channels regarding the upcoming vote on the cabinet proposed by Rosen Zhelyazkov.

Petkov added that, three years on, the party has a clearer understanding of how potential schemes to misuse public resources could be facilitated. “We know where they can try to siphon off the resources of Bulgarian citizens,” Petkov said. He noted that GERB is unaccustomed to having a genuine opposition. He added that CC would support the new government on matters such as the eurozone convergence report and other initiatives beneficial to Bulgaria.

Petkov explained that the new cabinet would be given some time, and the actions of the ministers would be closely monitored. "How this government addresses the real problems of the people will determine whether it has any value," he said.

Among the key issues to be addressed, he highlighted the Recovery and Resilience Plan and the adoption of three essential bills: the whistleblower protection legislation, the Commission for Anti-Corruption legislation, and the personal bankruptcy legislation

Petkov emphasized the importance of maintaining income policies, proposing a budget with a 3% deficit, and ensuring that State expenditures do not exceed 40% of GDP. "We will also monitor whether funds are being allocated through Council of Ministers' decrees to benefit their [the government's] cronies," he added.

Commenting on the amendments to the Judicial System Act adopted earlier in the day, which set limits on the term for an acting prosecutor general, Petkov called the changes a partial victory. “The result was not optimal, but it is still a step forward,” he said.
