First Internet Address in Cyrillic Domain "bg" Registered

Sofia, July 12 (BTA) - The first address in Imena.bg [Names.bg], an internationalized domain name register .bg, a top-level domain in Cyrillic and in Bulgarian, is already a reality, the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunication said Tuesday.

This was made possible after the Board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) accepted the application of the Imena.bg [Names.bg] company to create and register the domain the press release says.

The Transport, IT and Communications Ministry is participating in the drafting of lists for protection of names of state authorities and municipalities in order the guarantee the good name of the new domain. For example, the name of sofia.bg in Cyrillic can only be registered in the name of Sofia Municipality.

An initial sunrise three-month stage has been planned with priority registering of organisations with grounds for their name (company, registered trade mark).

Development and testing of the new register application is continuing, the press release said.
