BSP, ABV Agree about  Future Presidential Candidate's  Profile

Sofia, July 12 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and ABV have agreed about the future presidential candidate's profile, but have not discussed any names yet, BSP leader Kornelia Ninova said in Parliament on Tuesday. The two parties have set a common goal to change the GERB-imposed model in the presidential institution, which would require a victory in the presidential elections, Ninova added. Her remarks come after an internal party poll was conducted among socialists about the presidential elections.

According to her, the presidential candidate must be someone who firmly protects national interests when it comes to foreign policy, has a new vision about Bulgaria's place on an international and global scale, unites the nation domestically, acts as a pillar of statehood and is socially sensible.

"Today we did not discuss any names, but nominations are underway within BSP," Ninova said, adding that when the nominations in both parties are over, a second meeting will be held to discuss the names of candidates.

She said that BSP views GERB's governance in the presidential institution as a failure.

ABV leader and former president (2002-2012) Georgi Purvanov said that his party was happy to accept the invitation to meet with BSP, regardless that it came over two years late. According to him, this is a good start of dialogue in the Left- and Left-centre wing.

Purvanov noted that the future head of State must be in favour of active relations with Russia and conduct a policy that would suggest leadership in the Balkans.
