GERB Deputy Chairman Tsvetanov Holds Working Meetings in United States

Sofia, July 13 (BTA) - GERB Deputy Chairman and floor leader Tsvetan Tsvetanov started a one-week working visit to the United States to attend a conference about the impact of the US presidential elections on Transatlantic relations, GERB said in a press release.

In Washington, DC, Tsvetanov attended the last regional Prayer Breakfast in the current political season. During a discussion Tsvetanov had with Ambassador Tony Hall and John Nakamura, it was agreed that a regional Prayer Breakfast for the Balkan countries will be held in Bulgaria in 2017. Hall and Nakamura said that holding such an event in Sofia is in response of Bulgaria's significant role as a model of religious tolerance in the region.

Tsvetanov also had a meeting in the International Democratic Institute where he and Senior Associate and Director Ivan Doherty discussed various aspects of the political life in Bulgaria and the United States, and the upcoming presidential elections in the two countries. The participants in the talks stressed the important stabilizing role Bulgaria has in the Balkans, and the need to support systemic parties in their political opposition to populist and extreme formations. Also on the agenda of the talks were topics of the Transatlantic cooperation and opinions about current European matters following UK's decision to leave the EU.
