Hristo Bisserov Resumes Membership in Movement for Rights and Freedoms

Sofia, December 24 (BTA) - Former Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) MP and Parliament deputy chair Hristo Bisserov returns to MRF after on December 21 the Supreme Court of Cassation acquitted him of charges of tax evasion, undeclared money transfers and false information submitted to the National Audit Office.

This was the third, and final, court to acquit Bisserov of all three counts. The indictment claimed that Bisserov had not reported to the central bank transfers to his stepson's accounts with a bank in Macedonia and that he had not declared deposits of 314,529 US dollars and 82,515 euro with a bank in Geneva.

In a statement published on MRF's website, leader Moustafa Karadayi says that the outcome of the lawsuit gives ground to restore fully the membership rights of Bisserov in the party.

Karadayi says further that three years ago when the litigations started, the MRF supported a position to allow the case to be solved only within the juridical system and the administration of justice. "In this respect, Bisserov's withdrawal from the political positions he held played a positive role," Karadayi says.

"Then and now we are deeply certain that we did the right thing and that this is the proper model of political conduct in a state of law and order. Finding and observing the fine boundary between the party and political activity on the one hand and the independence of the judicial bodies on the other, is an important guarantee for fair administration of justice on the basis of the only the law and nothing else," the statement reads.
