Register of Bank Accounts and Safe Deposit Boxes Maintained by Bulgarian National Bank Operational As of January 3

Sofia, January 3 (BTA) - A Register of Bank Accounts and Safe Deposit Boxes maintained by the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) will start operating as of January 3, 2017, BNB said in a Tuesday press release. The new register contains centralised information, reported by the banks and bank branches operating in Bulgaria, on bank account numbers, the account holders, and the persons authorised to operate the accounts, as well as on deposit box holders and persons authorised by them.

In connection to the performance of their official duties, access to the information in the register is granted to the judicial authorities (courts, the Prosecutor's Office, and investigation authorities), the Chief Directorate National Police and Chief Directorate for Combating Organized Crime at the Ministry of Interior, the State Agency for National Security, the National Revenue Agency, the Commission for Withdrawal of Criminal Assets, enforcement agents in connection with initiated execution proceedings, and other bodies designated in Article 56 of the Credit Institutions Act.

The information contained in the register will also be used by the banks and foreign bank branches operating in Bulgaria. Natural and legal persons will also be entitled to obtain information from the register, regarding the data about them contained therein. The documents on the operation of the Register of Bank Accounts and Safe Deposit Boxes, and the fees charged for receiving information from the register, have been published in the BNB website, the press release said.
