Registered Data Controllers
Total 284,592 in 2016 -
Report

Sofia, June 8 (BTA) - A total of 6,176 new data controllers were registered in 2016, bringing the total to 284,592, Bulgaria's Commission for Personal Data Protection said in its 2016 Annual Report, which Parliament approved on Thursday.

Further improvement of ICT systems has facilitated individuals and businesses and have eased the administrative and bureaucratic burden on data controllers, the Commission reports.

A total of 660 complaints were received last year, including 220 concerning the November 6, 2016 presidential elections and national referendum. The Commission has considered and has issued administrative acts on 430 appeals. The fines imposed in 2016 aggregated 366,500 leva.

The Commission received 73,326 requests for access to traffic data, 32 per cent less than in 2015. No response could be given to such requests in 2,783 cases, a fourfold increase compared to the previous year. The reason was the enhanced judicial review after March 31, 2015, the report said.

For 2017, the objectives and priorities include the introduction of the new EU legal framework applicable to the public and private sectors, police and justice, as well as further efforts in the field of personal data protection in view of accession to Schengen. LI/BR
