site.btaSofia Hosts Defence, Aeorospace Industry and Research Conference

Sofia, July 10 (BTA) - A conference on Defence and Aerospace Industry and Research under the auspices of President Roumen Radev opened Monday in Sofia. The event was opened by the President who expressed hope that the conference will contribute to Bulgaria's integration in leading European projects in the field of security and defence.

Following a period of stagnation, this country' s defence industry is again in upsurge, its IT sector is acknowledged across the world, and Internet speed is among the fastest, Radev said. Bulgaria is a country of young, intelligent, highly educated people, open to the world and with an enterprising spirit. There is enormous potential in them and we should help develop it, the head of state said.

This is the first conference in the European Union dedicated to the new European Defence Fund which is yet to be voted by the European Parliament.

Participants in the forum include Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs European Commissioner Elzbieta Bienkowska, European Defence Agency Chief Executive Jorge Domecq and Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev.
