Sofia, June 28 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Petrol and Gas Association (BPGA) issued a position Thursday expressing its firm support for the intentions of Parliament to strengthen the control of supplies and trade in liquid fuels. The position is prompted by the recent protest rallies of small filling station operators against the bill regulating the economic activities related to petrol and petrol products.

BPGA argues that the bill is critically needed, even late in passing. The law will bring to light the grey sector, generate more revenue, bring order in a structure-determining sector of the Bulgarian economy and encourage fair competition, the position says. The bill is fully compliant with the European legislation and does not require special notification, BPGA says.

The Association says further that the division of big, small and medium traders is ill-advised because the law is equal to all.

The companies members of the BPGA call on the National Assembly and Parliament not to yield to "street pressure". "Given that half of the price of fuels constitutes receivables to the State, the State is fully entitled to demand security to guarantee them," the position says.
