site.btaPM Borissov: Rights of Bulgarian People Are Foremost

Brussels, June 29 (BTA correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - "The rights of the Bulgarian people are foremost," Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said on Friday, speaking to Bulgarian media in Brussels after Thursday's European Council on migration.

Borissov said that protecting the rights of the Bulgarian people was a priority. Those who flee from wars should be helped but they should return to their native countries.
He said that Bulgaria doesn't need economic migrants.

The Prime Minister added that Bulgaria has invested hundreds of millions to protect its borders which is why migration pressure is zero. Borissov said that the Dublin Regulation should be revised in the part where migrants are returned to the country where they registered first.

"Bulgaria is doing very well and is keeping its commitments. I see no need for an additional agreement," he said of a proposal for bilateral readmission agreements.

Borissov said that key word in the conclusions adopted by the European Council on Thursday was 'voluntary' with regards to the resettlement of migrants. He explained that the adopted conclusions take fully into consideration the proposals made by the Bulgarian EU Presidency on migration.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister commended the allocation of another 3 billion euro to extend the readmission agreement between the EU and Turkey.

Borissov said that everyone hailed the Bulgaria EU Presidency as one of the most successful.
