Centre of Excellence on EU Funding


Sofia, July 10 (BTA) - Seven institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) are involved in a project for building a centre of excellence on funding from the EU-supported Operational Programme Science and Education for Smart Growth, said BAS.

The project includes construction of state-of-the-art infrastructure for research and innovations in the creative and recreational industries. A data centre will be set up and an integrated information system (Nasledstvo BG) will be built to provide access to the cultural and natural heritage of Bulgaria for various users.

The project also includes starting and running a round-the-clock programme on what will be the country's first National Educational Television.

Five other organizations are partners in the project headed by former Sofia University rector Prof. Ivan Ilchev.

The seven BAS institutes are the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Cartography, the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore, the Institute for Study of Culturology, Institute for Literature, the Cyril and Methodius research centre, the Centre for Balkan Studies and the BAS central library.

The project will continue for 70 months. It will use financing for a total of 29.8 million leva. LY/LN/
