site.btaPresident Radev: We Can't Let Someone Else Decide Future of Bulgaria's Energy Projects

February 28 (BTA) - Speaking ahead of a B9 Summit in
Kosice on Thursday, President Rumen Radev said that Bulgaria
should pursue its interests and should not become hostage to
someone else's interests.

Taking a reporter's question, the Bulgarian head of State said:
"I am here not to let someone else decide the future of
Bulgaria's energy projects. During the preparations for the
summit I found out that certain texts in the prewritten
declaration put at risk the implementation of key infrastructure
 projects in Bulgaria's interests and I took steps so that the
controversial texts are removed."

Radev said he expected the Bulgarian government to capitalize on
 the visit of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to Bulgaria
 so that Bulgaria doesn't become hostage to foreign interests.

Radev said that NATO has enough mechanisms to draw up a single
policy, whereas regional formats inflame rhetoric which goes
counter to the Alliance's policy of restraint and dialogue.

At the forum the heads of state of Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia,
Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and
Poland are to discuss security issues within NATO's
comprehensive approach.
