Parliament Adopts
Procedural Rules for Election of
Central Bank Deputy Governor
Sofia, March 8 (BTA) - The National Assembly Friday adopted the procedural rules for the conditions and order of nominating a candidate for Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) Deputy Governor in charge of the Banking Supervision Department. This was prompted by the resignation of the current Deputy Governor, Dimiter Kostov, in early March.
Under the newly adopted rules, the BNB Governor has to table the nomination in the parliamentary Budget and Finance Committee within three days after the rules' adoption.
The media can send questions for the candidate ahead of the hearing at the Committee, and non-profit legal organizations can send positions to the Committee.
At the hearing, which is held at a public sitting of the Committee, the candidate presents their concept for the activity for which they have been nominated - banking supervision.
A candidate is considered approved if they receive the votes of more than half of the MPs present at the sitting.
The candidate has to undergo a preliminary check for affiliation with Communist-era secret services.
