Chairman Tsvetanov Attends AIPAC Policy Conference  in Washington, D.C.

March 25 (BTA) - Bulgarian National Assembly Internal Security and Public Order Committee Chairman and GERB Floor Leader Tsvetan Tsvetanov is participating in the 2019 American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Policy Conference in Washington, D.C., the GERB Party said in a press
elease on Monday.

Within the framework of the Conference, Tsvetanov had a meeting with World Jewish Congress (WJC) Vice President and CEO Robert Singer. Singer was highly appreciative of a tolerance and unity procession held in Sofia on March 10, 2019 to mark the 76th anniversary of the historic saving of the Bulgarian Jews from
the Holocaust in 1943. According to the WJC Vice President, this event demonstrated the tolerance and humanity of the Bulgarian people. Tsvetanov assured him that Bulgaria is willing to make this procession an annual event. Singer lauded Tsvetanov's role in his former capacity as deputy prime minister and interior
minister for classifying the Hezbollah military wing as a terrorist organization.

Tsvetanov also conferred with American Jewish Committee (AJC) Board of Governors member Toby Dershowitz. The two expressed their high opinion of the level of bilateral cooperation in countering anti-Semitism and other displays of hatred. Dershowitz noted that the Bulgarian people is friendly to the Jewish people, which is proved by a number of events in Bulgarian history. She furthermore singled out the designation
of a special coordinator for combating anti-Semitism by the Boyko Borissov Cabinet and the adoption of the working definition of anti-Semitism of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. RY/LG
