site.btaPrime Minister Borissov Meets with International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva
January 19 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with
the Managing Director and Executive Board Chairman of the
International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva. The
main emphasis in their conversation at the Council of Ministers
was the cooperation between Bulgaria and the IMF and
opportunities to develop it in view of Kristalina Georgieva's
priorities as IMF head. Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov also
participated in the meeting, the government press service said
on Sunday.
Boyko Borissov pointed out the prudent fiscal policy that
Bulgaria pursues, which has been praised by international credit
agencies. The Prime Minister noted that the Bulgarian economy
continues to develop steadily without accumulating macroeconomic
imbalances and that Bulgaria has made steady progress in
joining ERM II. For her part, Kristalina Georgieva congratulated
the government on its fiscal policy achievements.
Discussions at the meeting also centred around the challenges of
global economic development. Borissov and Georgieva united in
their shared understanding that securing stronger and more
sustainable growth should continue to be a guiding principle in
