site.btaAcceptance of Applications for Support in Relation to Russian Restrictions on Agricultural Products Begins on September 1
Sofia, August 29 (BTA) - In connection with the Russian restrictions on the import of some agricultural products from the EU the European Commission has triggered temporary emergency measures to support vegetable and fruit producers, a press release of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food said Friday.
Producers are eligible to receive support for withdrawn from the market actually produced, or green-harvested, edible fruit and vegetables. The objective is to reduce overall supply of a number of fruit and vegetable products on the European market as and when price pressures become too great in the coming months.
The total budget of the measures for all member-states amounts to 125 million euro, with an additional 30 million euro for peaches and nectarines. The products concerned by the measures announced are the following: tomatoes, carrots, white cabbage, peppers, cauliflowers, cucumbers and gherkins, mushrooms, apples, pear, red fruits, table grapes, plums, peaches and nectarines.
As of September 1 municipal agricultural offices will begin to accept applications for intentions to participate in the scheme.The applications have to be made to enable the Ministry of Agriculture to collect information which is to be notified before the European Commission and on the basis of which the financial resources for Bulgaria will be defined.
