Funding has been secured for a new Danube bridge near Ruse, with construction set to begin as early as 2026, said Ruse Regional Governor Dragomir Draganov here on Monday.
He pointed out that European funding of EUR 2.5 billion has been secured for the construction of the bridge and that the project will be implemented by Romania. A plan for the construction of the bridge is expected to be presented by the middle of 2026 and the bridge will be ready in 2030, Draganov added.
He noted that in order for the ferry to operate between Ruse and Giurgiu, the bypass road connecting it to the border crossing needs to be repaired and that repair measures are expected from the Romanian Ministry of Transport.
Draganov also commented that the construction of the motorway section between the Byala bypass and Ruse should begin in March and April of 2025. "Over three and a half million have been invested in compensation for owners of agricultural lands on the territory of Cenovo, Byala and Borovo. It is important to clear up all the inaccuracies, even if the process of building the motorway has to be delayed, in order for cars to move calmly along it afterwards," Draganov emphasised.
